  • Former frontman to The Heavy Metal Horns, Thaddeus Hogarth has been on his own for several years now and sounding better than ever. He has literally landed the "poster boy" gig (his silhouette, head back, wailing on the guitar, can be seen in Bose ads) for the new Bose Cylindrical Radiating System. In fact, this album was recorded at Bose's Live Music Technology Division Performance Center in Framingham, Massachusetts during a one day session there on June 24th of 2004. Joined by keyboardist David Sparr, bassist David Buda and drummer Joey Scrima, Hogarth moves through ten funky self-penned compositions that are so thick with groove and attitude that you'll need an entire can of WD40 to break free. [Ed. note- Keep dropping names Doug, maybe they'll send us some free stuff]

The songs also act as a good forum for all the players to stretch out and exhibit their individual chops. On Live at Bose, Thaddeus Hogarth's vocals are velvety smooth and remind the listener of Gil Scott-Heron. His guitar playing takes on a funky backdrop thick in wah-wah laden riffs and soaring single note solos. In the meantime, David Sparr's keyboard work accompanies Hogarth's melodies with chiming resonance. Sparr also capably mixed the album while mastering guru Jonathan Wyner put the finishing touches to the project at M-Works.

Bassist David Buda has been long recognized on the scene as a player's player. His bass chops are monsterous and he exhibits his considerable dexterity in the song Perfect Love with a blazing, Jaco-inspired bass solo. Drummer Joey Scrima keeps the group corraled with his taut and tasteful time keeping.

Coolest songs vaporizing your senses include the seething album opener If It Ainąt Slow, Perfect Love featuring blazing solos from Hogarth and Buda, the funky Because My Baby Told Me So, the groovin' sensibilities of The Only One Who Really Cares, and the digital stomp of Computer Screen.
